Nationwide Curfew Extended For Another 60 Days

Kenyans were eagerly waiting on the Presidential address. The nationwide curfew has been extended for another 60 days with the curfew starting from 11:00 PM- 4:00 AM for the next 60 days. Bars and eateries have been opened but with an order to be closed by 10 PM. Bar owners are directed to develop self-regulating mechanisms in consultation with the MoH.
Church gatherings,have also seen an increase in the number of people. It has been raised to a 1/3 of the congregants following the guidelines given by the interfaith council. Weddings and funerals can now accommodate up to 200 people but also keeping the MoH rules.
The National Co-ordination Committee on the Corona virus Pandemic chaired by interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has been holding a series of meetings in preparation for the conference and address. We are not out of the woods yet. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i will give his remarks, as will Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka.
Leaders started arriving from 1.30pm. They have given their views on the lessons learned in fighting the virus that can be used to reopen the country and move the country forward. The conference began with prayer by Archbishop Muheria. He is the chairperson of the Inter-Faith Council.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe then handed over the Covid-19 report to Uhuru. The President recognised heroes of the response (communities, governors, religious leaders, security, and transport agencies). The president is expected to rally the country around a shared vision to work towards a strong recovery and build on lessons from the crisis.
There had been indications the president will soften various measures already in place after the meeting. This follows indications that the curve is flattening and the recovery rate is promising. The president has been holding meetings with various teams ahead of the address.
