Tips and Tricks on How to Make Super Soft Chapatis

Chapatis are one of the most cherished and loved foods in many Kenyan homes.

Kenyans, and especially those living within Nairobi eat chapatis for breakfast, lunch, and supper.

The perfect chapatis, however, have to be super soft for people to enjoy them.

In Kenya, for a woman to be considered an accomplished wife and homemaker, one has to be able to make chapatis perfectly.

However, what most people don’t know is, for your chapatis to be extra soft, the secret lies in how you prepare the dough.

Here are some amazing tips:

Tip 1: When mixing the dough, use your hands to make sure it is well mixed and consistent for at least ten minutes.

Tip 2: Use warm or slightly hot water to make the chapati dough.

Tip 3: Add butter or cooking fat when mixing the dough at the beginning of the mixing process.

Tip 4: Once you finish mixing the dough, cover it using a soft wet cloth for at least 20 minutes to retain the moisture.

Tip 5: You can poke the dough using your fingers to check whether it has the right consistency. The dough should sink and not resist if it has a soft texture.

Tip 6: If the dough is too loose, add some flour and mix well. On the other hand, if it is too tight,  add some warm water and mix again.

When Cooking:

All the sides of the dough should have the same thickness while rolling.

Dust off excess flour before cooking the chapatis.

Preheat the pan in which the chapatis are cooked; should be cooked on medium flame.

Do not use too much fat when making the chapatis on the pan. This will make them hard.

NOTE: Constant practice is the only secret to make perfectly round and super soft chapatis.
